Feed the Birds
If you'd really like to get up and close and personal with the birds whilst you relax on your pitch, we can lend you a bird feeder free of charge (small refundable deposit) for the duration of your stay. You just buy a bag of seed or nuts.
'The site is in beautiful countryside and is a haven for birds. How magical to be awoken in the morning by birdsong - I lay listening to woodpeckers too on most mornings.'
Flora
Regular guests at our touring park will know how hard James works on keeping the grounds of The Old Oaks in tip top shape. All of the hard standing pitches are separated by trees, shrubs and flowers. View our gallery of some of the lovely sights to be seen around the park throughout the seasons.
Caravan Touring Park & Campsite for Nature Lovers
If you're looking for total peace and quiet in a stunning location, coupled with on tap nature, birds and wildlife, our exclusively for adults touring caravan park and campsite in Somerset is right up your street.
The abundance of mature trees, shrubs and hedgerows are positively teeming with all sorts of wildlife.
Some of our feathered friends making regular appearances are chaffinchs, goldfinches, swallows, martins, sparrows and robins. Springtime brings the sound of the woodpecker, often heard in the ancient trees, Gog and Magog, which are situated just above The Birches and The Orchard. Other birds sighted are tawny owls, buzzards and kingfishers.
Down at the on site fishing lake, you'll always find our resident ducks and ducklings in the spring, who are also partial to a stroll around the park, hoping to seek out those guests who will throw them a few scraps.
During the winter months, we are privileged to be close to the Somerset Nature Reserves, home to the famous and spectacular starling murmurations.
Moorhens, foxes, badgers, squirrels, bats, butterflies and dragonflies can always be spotted around The Old Oaks. Take a quiet seat by the pond and you might even spot deer in the adjacent fields.
Just a few miles from our campsite are the mystical Avalon Marshes within Somerset's historic Levels and Moors. Both Westhay Moor Nature Reserve and Shapwick Heath are internationally famous as havens for birdwatchers. Somerset Wildlife Trusts Catcott Lows is a mecca for migrating birds during winter and wading birds in the spring. A little further afield are RSPB's Ham Wall, Greylake, West Sedgemoor and Swell Wood Nature Reserves.
