RSPB Ham Wall – Walks with Wardens International Dawn Chorus Day 2026

Date: Friday 1 May 2026
Time: 6:00 am – 9:00 am
Location: RSPB Ham Wall

Celebrate the magic of spring with a special Walks with Wardens tour at RSPB Ham Wall, just ahead of International Dawn Chorus Day. This exclusive early-morning experience invites you to explore the reserve with the wardening team and immerse yourself in nature’s spectacular dawn symphony.

During this guided three-hour walk, you’ll gain exclusive access to parts of the reserve normally closed to visitors, discovering the sights and sounds of the reedbeds as wildlife awakens for the day. Listen out for the distinctive boom of the male Eurasian Bittern, the explosive song of Cetti’s Warbler, and the lively trill of Sedge Warbler, alongside familiar woodland birds such as European Robin, Great Tit, and Common Blackbird.

Discover One of the UK’s Best Wildlife Sites

Set within the beautiful Avalon Marshes, Ham Wall is one of the best places in the UK to see bittern. In fact, around one fifth of the UK’s booming male bittern population was recorded here in 2022.

Visitors may also encounter several other heron species, including the impressive Great White Egret, Cattle Egret, Grey Heron, and Little Egret, all of which can often be spotted around the wetlands.

Go Behind the Scenes with the Wardens

This special walk also offers the opportunity to learn more about the conservation and habitat management work carried out by the staff and volunteer team. Discover how the reserve is managed, surveyed, and protected to support its incredible diversity of wildlife.
