Glastonbury Abbey – Taunton Garrison Training Day 2026

On Saturday 28th March, local re-enactment group Taunton Garrison visit Glastonbury Abbey for their annual Training Day. They will be portraying the Monmouth Rebellion of 1685, which saw rebels camped in the abbey grounds.

Watch the group practice weapons training* in the morning then enjoy an arena display at 11:30am and 1:30pm, featuring full drill training and the chance to learn about the events of 1685 and how they impacted the people of Somerset.

*There will be no musket fire/loud bangs during this training session.

Schedule

  • 10am-11am: Musket Testing (no firing) and Sword Training
  • 11:30am-12pm: Full Drill Training & Talk
  • 1:30pm-2:30pm: Full Drill Training & Talk
