Shepton Mallet Prison Tours 2024

Shepton Mallet prison offers tours 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm.

You can choose to have either a guided tour (certain times only) or a self-guided tour where you will be given a visitor guide and map.
A dark look at the history of crime and punishment, this tour of Shepton Mallet Prison reveals the secrets of a historic English prison.  You can walk the corridors and see the cells of a prison that has been standing for 400 years, and learn about the prisoners who have lived here. See where executions once took place, and where old architecture has been modernized to suit the 21st century. Notice the difference between punishment in the 1600s and the present day.

The prison also holds regular events such as Ghost tours, ‘Night Behind Bars’, ‘The Cell Escape Room’ and more. There is also a museum, cafe and gift shop.
