Strode Theatre – The Mid Somerset Orchestra. Summer Serenade: Elgar, Schumann & Borodin
Date: Saturday 4 July 2026
Venue: Strode Theatre
Presented by: Mid-Somerset Orchestra
Enjoy an inspiring evening of orchestral music as the Mid-Somerset Orchestra presents its Summer Serenade, featuring works by Edward Elgar, Robert Schumann, and Alexander Borodin.
The concert highlights Cello Concerto, one of the most deeply personal works in the orchestral repertoire. The solo part will be performed by rising cellist Harry Jordan, formerly of Wells Cathedral School and now studying at the Royal Academy of Music. Written after the First World War, Elgar’s concerto blends reflective lyricism with moments of quiet intensity, creating a moving dialogue between soloist and orchestra.
The evening opens with Prince Igor Overture, an energetic orchestral work by Borodin, filled with bold themes and vivid colour.
The programme concludes with Symphony No. 3, Schumann’s uplifting “Rhenish” Symphony, inspired by the landscapes and spirit of the Rhineland and celebrated for its rhythmic vitality and warm, expansive character.
The concert will be conducted by Hitoshi Suzuki.
🎶 A memorable evening of orchestral music, showcasing passion, virtuosity, and the enduring beauty of the symphonic tradition.
