Electric Metering FAQ

I don’t have a smart phone or don’t want to download the Metpow app
Please inform our warden upon arrival.  They will get you settled on your pitch and then you can get set up on the electric metering, manually, at reception.

I completed the sign up process but didn’t receive a verification email
This sometimes happens when an incorrect email address is entered. Please let reception know. They can check your email address in the system and then resend the email link.  Also, if you have lost access to your energy data, you can reaccess by getting a new email link sent by reception.

I want to extend my stay and not lose access to my electric
When you are in reception, extending your stay, be sure to ask the warden to ensure your Metpow data is also updated.

I want to pause my electric supply when I go out for the day
Hit ‘pause’ (symbol clearly located on the app home screen when a session is active). When paused, the electricity will be turned off. You will need to re-energise the pitch via the Metow app when you return (power up button clearly located at the bottom of the app homepage).

I am seeing ‘pop up ads’ appearing at the bottom of the screen when using the app
This happens on some Android phones and is caused by guests using a free QR code scanning app. Only scan the QR code via the Metpow app or by using your phone’s camera.

Why am I using more electric than at home?
Metpows meters are MID compliant and are fully certified. Energy data is processed accurately and passed through multiple checks before being published for you/the customer to view. We are advised that appliances designed for households are generally more efficient than those fitted in caravans and motorhomes. If electricity is used for heating for instance, the lining of a caravan will expel heat at a tremendous rate compared to an insulated home, meaning costs would escalate more so than at home, in addition, items such as air fryers use more electricity than people expect, and electric showers use a lot of electricity with caravan models are generally more inefficient than home models due to their compact size and powerful heat exchangers/onboard heaters.

Data collected for March 2025 from the Metpow system:
~ Average usage by guests – 11kwh per day
~ 24.5% of guests paid no extra for their usage
~ 44% paid between 30p and £2 extra for their stay (2 to 7 nights)
~ This means that 68.5% of guests in March paid no extra of very little
~ 25% of guests in March used between 12kwh and 20kwh per day
~ 9.3% of guests used more than 20kwh per day
~ Highest usage for a 1 night stay was 46kwh!
~ Total electric used on site during March was 20,327 kwh

My Android phone is blocking the Metpow web app after scanning the QR code

Although not common a customer’s phone may be set to block web sites accessed via QR code, this can be changed in the phone settings, alternatively, the customer can use the Metpow app or enter the short address directly into their phone’s browser, web address is clearly stated on the pitch sticker.

I ended my session in the web app, how do I turn it back on?
Please ask reception to turn it back on for you

Pre Authorisation Process: I have had £10 secured in my account, what is this?
Metpow pre-authorise the customers payment card to ensure they have sufficient balance to pay for any amount owned at the end of their stay. The value which is secured (not taken) by Metpow (handled by Stripe) varies depending upon the stay length, cost of electricity and any fair use policy that is in place. As the pre-auth is handled by Stripe, it will appear on the customers account under Old Oaks name. The value is held only and will be released/proportionally charged against at the end of the customers stay.

We’ve already paid good money for our pitch. Are you going to charge more on top?

The answer is; only if you use what would be considered an excessive amount of power. We’ve always included electric within our pitch price and this will stay the same… but now, rather than take a wild guess at what the average guest is consuming, we will actually know for sure, at any given moment, and so will you know what you’re using by logging into the Metpow website.

Clearly, this is all brand new and so if changes are needed, they will be made, however, based on what we do know currently, we believe that most guests will have to pay NO EXTRA at all, and if you do go over the allotted kwh per 24 hour period, you will simply be charged what Old Oaks pay plus a very small charge for card processing. It will be the high users, who will have to start contributing. We know of a real-life situation on another Tranquil Park recently where one lady was using £20 of power a night! And so, no matter what your current views on metering are, we’re sure you will agree that the park should not have to foot the bill for this kind of behaviour. That is an extreme (but true) example, but you get the picture. Parks (and you, the considerate guest) cannot, nor should not, subsidise high users, who may not even be aware of the impact or consequences.

How can I make sure I don’t go over the allocated number of kwh allowance per day?
Trying switching over any appliances to gas, if you have the option. Pause your electric when you go out of the day. Best not to leave water heaters running non-stop. Turn your appliances down a notch.  Don’t heat awnings!

How much electric is included?
12kwh per day ~ March, April, Oct & Nov
10kwh per day ~ May & Sept
8kwh per day ~ June, July, Aug
*NB these are all subject to change as we learn more about average usage

Will unused units be carried over to the following day?
No. Our higher than average allowance makes up for any fluctuations from day to day. We think this is fair.

A rough guide to devices and equipment that are known higher users of power in caravans & motorhomes

  • Air fryers
  • Wet floor heating
  • Water heaters and electric heating – advise using timers rather than leave on 24 hours
  • Fridges & freezers – we encourage the use of gas rather than electric where possible or to turn down a fraction
  • Kettles & hair dryers
  • As a rule, all devices that produce heat or cold are the worst culprits
  • Some Alde & Truma systems can use significantly more power due
  • Lights, phone charging and TVs use little energy
